                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, changing provisions relating to juveniles driving
     3     vehicles without possessing valid drivers licenses.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1501(d) of Title 75, act of November 25,
     7  1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes, is amended to read:
     9  § 1501.  Drivers required to be licensed.

    11     (d)  Penalty.--Any person, except a juvenile, violating
    12  subsection (a) is guilty of a summary offense and shall, upon
    13  conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $200, except that, if
    14  the person charged furnishes satisfactory proof of having held a
    15  driver's license valid on the last day of the preceding driver's
    16  license period and no more than one year has elapsed from the
    17  last date for renewal, the fine shall be $25. No person charged
    18  with violating subsection (a) or (b) shall be convicted if the

     1  person produces at the office of the issuing authority within
     2  five days of the violation:
     3         (1)  a driver's license valid in this Commonwealth at the
     4     time of the violation; or
     5         (2)  if the driver's license is lost, stolen, destroyed
     6     or illegible, evidence that the driver was licensed at the
     7     time of the violation.
     8  In the case of a juvenile, the court shall have the options of
     9  reducing the fine or referring the matter to a juvenile
    10  probation officer or implementing any other alternative
    11  appropriate disposition.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
