                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," requiring the inclusion of alumni
     6     association presidents on the boards of trustees of the State
     7     Colleges and University.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 2008.1, act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30,
    11  No.14), known as the "Public School Code of 1949," amended
    12  December 6, 1972 (P.L.1413, No.306), is amended to read:
    13     Section 2008.1.  Boards of Trustees of State Colleges and
    14  Universities.--(a)  The Board of Trustees of each of the State
    15  Colleges and Universities shall consist of nine members who
    16  shall be appointed by the Governor.
    17     (b)  The terms of each member of each such board shall be six
    18  years, and until his successor is appointed and qualified. All
    19  members of the boards of trustees of the several State Colleges
    20  and Universities serving as administrative boards on the

     1  effective date of this act shall continue to serve as members of
     2  those boards of trustees for the balance of the respective terms
     3  for which they were appointed. Their successors and all members
     4  of all boards, appointed to succeed members who have served six-
     5  year terms, shall be appointed for terms of six years from the
     6  date of the expiration of the preceding term. All boards shall
     7  contain a member who is a full-time undergraduate student
     8  enrolled for at least twelve semester hours, other than a
     9  student in his freshman year. The student member shall be
    10  appointed for a term of three years from the date of the
    11  expiration of the preceding term or for so long as he is a full-
    12  time undergraduate student in attendance at the college,
    13  whichever period is shorter. All boards shall also contain the
    14  president of that college or university's alumni association.
    15  Vacancies happening before the expiration of a term shall be
    16  filled in like manner for the unexpired term.
    17     (c)  Five members of any such board shall constitute a
    18  quorum.
    19     (d)  Each such board shall select from its members a chairman
    20  and a secretary.
    21     Section 2.  Alumni association presidents shall assume their
    22  positions on the respective boards upon the occurrence of the
    23  next available vacancy.
    24     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.
