                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of November 30, 1976 (P.L.1205, No.264),
     2     entitled "An act defining emergency medical technician;
     3     authorizing such personnel to render emergency care;
     4     exempting such personnel and physicians working in
     5     conjunction with them from civil liability when rendering
     6     such care; and making repeals," further providing for the
     7     recertification of emergency medical technicians.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  The act of November 30, 1976 (P.L.1205, No.264),
    11  referred to as the Emergency Medical Technician Law, is amended
    12  by adding a section to read:
    13     Section 4.1.  Recertification of Emergency Medical
    14  Technicians.--(a)  Emergency medical technicians shall be
    15  recertified every three years. To be recertified an EMT must
    16  accumulate a total of 100 credits for recertification according
    17  to the following schedule:
    18         Service or training                             Credits
    19     Active service with an


     1       ambulance or rescue squad                             40
     2     Classroom training:
     3         Cardiopulmonary resuscitation                       15
     4         Vital signs                                         15
     5         Fractures                                           15
     6         Oxygen therapy                                      15
     7     (b)  The instructor of the classroom training shall pass or
     8  fail an EMT in accordance with the appropriate Red Cross
     9  standard. The total hours of classroom training shall not exceed
    10  25 hours. The department shall schedule this training at
    11  convenient times and at various places around the Commonwealth.
    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 90 days.
