                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for the observance of March 29 of each year as Vietnam
     2     Veterans Day.

     3     WHEREAS, President Richard Nixon by proclamation (February
     4  28, 1974 No.4270, 39 F.R.7773) set aside March 29, 1974 as
     5  Vietnam Veterans Day to remember that the honorable peace
     6  America achieved came through great sacrifices; and
     7     WHEREAS, Two and one-half million of six and one-half million
     8  Vietnam-era veterans served in Vietnam; and
     9     WHEREAS, It is appropriate to acknowledge our debt due those
    10  veterans who were in the armed forces during the conflict in
    11  Southeast Asia and who served with distinction despite
    12  significant disruptions in their lives and other personal
    13  sacrifices.
    14     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    15  hereby enacts as follows:

     1     Section 1.  Out of our deep respect and admiration for the
     2  untiring devotion that characterized our armed forces during the
     3  Vietnam Conflict, March 29 of each year is hereby designated as
     4  Vietnam Veterans Day. The Governor is authorized and requested
     5  to issue a proclamation each year calling upon the people of the
     6  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to observe that day with
     7  appropriate honors and ceremonies, requesting State and local
     8  officials and civic and patriotic organizations to give their
     9  enthusiastic support to such observances; and directing
    10  appropriate officials of government to arrange for the display
    11  of the flags of the United States and of the Commonwealth of
    12  Pennsylvania--all to the end of honoring those men and women who
    13  served their country faithfully during the Vietnam Conflict.
    14     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
