                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for penalties for individuals
     3     evading turnpike tolls.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 6110 of Title 75, act of November 25,
     7  1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes, is amended to read:
     9  § 6110.  Regulation of traffic on Pennsylvania Turnpike.
    10     (a)  General rule.--The provisions of this title apply upon
    11  any turnpike or highway under the supervision and control of the
    12  Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission unless specifically modified by
    13  rules and regulations promulgated by the commission which shall
    14  become effective only upon publication in accordance with law. A
    15  copy of the rules and regulations, so long as they are
    16  effective, shall be posted at all entrances to the turnpike or
    17  highway for the inspection of persons using the turnpike or
    18  highway. This section does not authorize the establishment of a

     1  maximum speed limit greater than 55 miles per hour.
     2     (b)  [Penalty] Penalties.--
     3         (1)  Except as otherwise provided in this subsection, any
     4     person violating any of the rules and regulations of the
     5     Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for which no penalty has
     6     otherwise been provided by statute [is guilty of] commits a
     7     summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to
     8     pay a fine of $25.
     9         (2)  Any person violating any of the rules and
    10     regulations of the commission prohibiting fare evasion or
    11     attempted fare evasion commits a summary offense and shall,
    12     upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine according to the
    13     classification by the commission of the vehicle driven by
    14     that person at the time of violation as follows:
    15             (i)  Class 1 through 2: $25.
    16             (ii)  Class 3 through 6: $200.
    17             (iii)  Class 7 and higher: $300.
    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
