                                     AN ACT

     1  Requiring identification of persons selling precious metal,
     2     jewelry and other items and providing penalties.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Identification requirement.
     6     Any person who solicits the general public for the purchase
     7  of gold, silver and other precious metals, jewelry, old coins
     8  and other like items shall require a positive identification of
     9  any person from whom he makes a purchase.
    10  Section 2.  Purchase records.
    11     The purchaser shall retain a record of each purchase for at
    12  least one year following the date thereof. The record shall
    13  contain a description of the item or items purchased, the type
    14  of identification produced by the seller and a recording of any
    15  identifying numbers and other pertinent information on the
    16  identification documents. Purchase records shall be made
    17  available to law enforcement agencies at their request.

     1  Section 3.  Penalty.
     2     Any purchaser who violates any provision of this act shall,
     3  upon conviction thereof at a summary proceeding be sentenced to
     4  pay a fine of $500.
     5  Section 4.  Effective date.
     6     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
