                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, adding additional members to the State
     3     Employees' Retirement Board and making editorial changes.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Subsections (a) and (b) of section 5901 of Title
     7  71, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the
     8  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, are amended to read:
     9  § 5901.  The State Employees' Retirement Board.
    10     (a)  Status and membership.--The board shall be an
    11  independent administrative board and consist of [seven] nine
    12  members: the State Treasurer, ex officio, and [six] eight
    13  members appointed by the Governor for terms of four years,
    14  subject to confirmation by the Senate. At least five board
    15  members shall be active members of the system, and at least two
    16  shall have ten or more years of credited State service. At least
    17  one board member shall be an annuitant of the system who shall
    18  not have held public office. The chairman of the board shall be

     1  designated by the Governor from among the members of the board.
     2     (b)  Appointments and terms.--[The two members elected by the
     3  board and serving on the effective date of this title shall
     4  continue to serve until the expiration of their respective
     5  terms. Of the remaining four appointees, one shall be appointed
     6  for an initial term of two years, one for an initial term of
     7  three years, and two for an initial term of four years.] A
     8  vacancy occurring during the term of an appointed member shall
     9  be filled for the unexpired term by the appointment and
    10  confirmation of a successor in the same manner as his
    11  predecessor. No appointed member shall serve more than two
    12  consecutive full terms.

    14     Section 2.  The initial terms of the additional board members
    15  added by this act shall be one for four years and one for two
    16  years. Thereafter, their successors shall serve for terms of
    17  four years.
    18     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
