HOUSE RESOLUTION

                      In the House of Representatives, January 14, 1980

     1     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the Keystone State of the
     2  northeastern United States railroad network and the center of
     3  our Nation's railroad industry; and
     4     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania'a major and long established railroad
     5  corridor links the great American cities of Philadelphia and
     6  Pittsburgh and presently serves millions of people along its
     7  path; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania coal is a vital and available energy
     9  resource in our effort to conserve and use energy efficiently
    10  for the transportation of our Nation's citizens, with excellent
    11  applicability to electrified railroad service; and
    12     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has committed itself to railroad
    13  passenger service and has filed 403(b) applications to expand
    14  that service; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    16  of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania declares its continued and
    17  expanding commitment to railroad passenger service and strongly


     1  urges the Congress of the United States, the United States
     2  Department of Transportation and Amtrak to include the
     3  Philadelphia to Pittsburgh railroad corridor in their "Emerging
     4  Corridors" program; and be it further
     5     RESOLVED, That upon adoption, copies of this resolution be
     6  transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives
     7  to:
     8         (1)  every member of the Pennsylvania Congressional
     9     delegation;
    10         (2)  the chairman and ranking minority member of the
    11     Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee of the Unites
    12     States House of Representatives;
    13         (3)  all members of the Subcommittee of Transportation
    14     and Commerce of the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee
    15     of the United  States House of Representatives;
    16         (4)  the Secretary of the United States Department of
    17     Transportation; and
    18         (5)  the President of the National Rail Passenger Service
    19     Corporation (Amtrak).
