In the House of Representatives, September, 19, 1979
1 WHEREAS, Pope John Paul II is scheduled to visit the City of
2 Philadelphia on October 3 and 4, 1979; and
3 WHEREAS, Pope John Paul II is the first reigning Pope to
4 travel extensively in the United States; and
5 WHEREAS, Pope John Paul II has demonstrated an openness and
6 compassion which has captured the affection and respect of
7 people throughout the world; and
8 WHEREAS, All residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 are honored by the Pope's visit; therefore be it
10 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
11 of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania welcomes this distinguished
12 visitor and, on behalf of the citizens of Pennsylvania, extends
13 to him an invitation to return to the Commonwealth in the
14 future; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Pope
16 John Paul II on the occasion of his visit to the City of
17 Philadelphia.
