REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, APRIL 25, 1979
In the House of Representatives, April 25, 1979 1 A chemical catalyst known as XRG is now being used by many 2 municipalities and provide industries as a means of saving fuel, 3 both in the heating of buildings and the operation of motor 4 vehicles. This product, which has been used in Europe for years, 5 provides a 20 to 25% savings of fuel. 6 The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including all State 7 agencies, uses 4,085,676,000 gallons of gasoline per year. 8 Assuming that the State pays 50¢ per gallon for their fuel and 9 assuming that the catalyst only saves 10% of the fuel, we here 10 in Pennsylvania would be saving $204,283,800 each year if we 11 used XRG. We would also be saving 408,567,600 gallons of 12 precious fuel. 13 The County of Allegheny and the Cities of Pittsburgh and 14 Reading, as well as the Auditor General's Office are now 15 experimenting with the use of XRG. In the City of Reading the 16 results of the experiment showed a savings of 8.9% in two city
1 buildings which use No.2 fuel oil and 13.6% in another city 2 building which uses No.5 fuel oil. 3 If XRG works to save fuel the Department of General Services 4 should also experiment in its use; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urges the 6 Department of General Services to conduct a 60-day experiment in 7 the use of XRG in State buildings and vehicles and report its 8 findings to the House of Representatives as soon as possible 9 after the experiment has been completed.
