HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY SEVENTY, ZORD, DAWIDA, McVERRY AND CHESS,

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, MARCH 20, 1979

                         In the House of Representatives, March 20, 1979

     1     WHEREAS, During its long history the South Side Hospital
     2  located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been of distinguished
     3  service to the city's South Side and surrounding areas; and
     4     WHEREAS, While other sections of Pittsburgh have within their
     5  borders many hospitals, the South Side section has only one; and
     6     WHEREAS, The South Side Hospital presently serves a densely
     7  populated, industrialized area of Pittsburgh and serves a
     8  community of 250,000 persons; and
     9     WHEREAS, The South Side Hospital employs 800 persons; and
    10     WHEREAS, During periods of peak vehicular traffic it is not
    11  practicable to transport persons injured in the South Side area
    12  to other hospitals in the City of Pittsburgh; and
    13     WHEREAS, The closing of South Side Hospital would cause a
    14  severe hardship for the patrons it serves, for its employees and
    15  for the entire South Side area; therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    17  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the Board of Directors of the


     1  Health Systems Agency of the Health Service Area having
     2  jurisdiction over the South Side Hospital to continue the
     3  operation of the South Side Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
     4  as a full service hospital so that it may continue to perform
     5  the services which have been traditionally performed by such
     6  hospital; and be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to each
     8  member of the Board of Directors of the Health Systems Agency of
     9  the Health Service Area having jurisdiction over the South Side
    10  Hospital.
