AN ACT
1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2 act relating to the public school system, including certain
3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5 laws relating thereto," further providing for the approval of
6 the closing of certain schools in certain three-region school
7 districts.
8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
9 hereby enacts as follows:
10 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
11 as the "Public School Code of 1949," is amended by adding a
12 section to read:
13 Section 710. Approval Requirement for Closing Certain
14 Schools.--(a) In any consolidated or merged three-region school
15 district, where three directors are elected from each region,
16 the board of school directors shall not close any school in any
17 region without the approval, on a final vote, of at least one of
18 the school directors from the region where the school that is
19 the subject of the proposed closing is located.
20 (b) The board shall not in any consolidated or merged three-
1 region school district, where all the school directors are
2 elected by region, close or consolidate any grade from
3 kindergarten through twelfth grade, in any region, without the
4 approval, on final vote, of at least one school director from
5 the region where the grade to be closed or consolidated is
6 located.
7 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
