                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), entitled
     2     "An act concerning elections, including general, municipal,
     3     special and primary elections, the nomination of candidates,
     4     primary and election expenses and election contests; creating
     5     and defining membership of county boards of elections;
     6     imposing duties upon the Secretary of the Commonwealth,
     7     courts, county boards of elections, county commissioners;
     8     imposing penalties for violation of the act, and codifying,
     9     revising and consolidating the laws relating thereto; and
    10     repealing certain acts and parts of acts relating to
    11     elections," further providing for mileage for transportation
    12     when transmitting returns and ballot boxes and harmonizing
    13     the language of existing amendments.

    14     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    15  hereby enacts as follows:
    16     Section 1.  Subsections (c) and (d) of section 412, act of
    17  June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), known as the "Pennsylvania
    18  Election Code," amended April 12, 1949 (P.L.693, No.165) and May
    19  23, 1949 (P.L.1698, No.515), are amended to read:
    20     Section 412.  Compensation of Election Officers.--* * *
    21     (c)  For transmitting returns of primaries and elections and
    22  the ballot box or boxes in counties of the third, fourth, fifth,
    23  sixth, seventh and eighth classes, all judges of election shall


     1  be entitled to receive the additional sum of three dollars and
     2  fifty cents ($3.50) [and, except in counties of the first class,
     3  shall also be entitled to receive five cents ($.05) per mile for
     4  mileage,] as full compensation for said services.
     5     (d)  For transmitting the ballot box or boxes together with
     6  the judge of election as herein provided, the minority inspector
     7  of election shall be entitled to an additional sum of two
     8  dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) in counties of the first class,
     9  and [in all other counties the additional sum of] in counties of
    10  the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes, the
    11  minority inspector of election shall be entitled to an
    12  additional sum of three dollars and fifty cents ($3.50) as full
    13  compensation for said services.
    14     The person furnishing transportation to the judge of election
    15  and the minority inspector in transmitting returns and ballot
    16  boxes, as provided in [subsections (c) and (d) of] this section,
    17  shall be entitled to [ten cents (10¢) per mile circular from the
    18  polling place to the county court house.] that mileage
    19  compensation prescribed for county employees in the performance
    20  of their duties. Such mileage compensation shall be computed on
    21  a circular basis from the polling place to the county
    22  courthouse. The name of such person shall appear on the voucher
    23  of the judge of election.

    25     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
