A JOINT RESOLUTION
1 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth
2 of Pennsylvania, permitting voluntary recitation of prayer in
3 public schools.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby resolves as follows:
6 Section 1. The following amendment to the Constitution of
7 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with
8 the provisions of Article XI thereof:
9 That Article I be amended by adding a section to read:
10 § 29. Recitation of prayer in public schools.
11 Any school district may authorize the recitation of prayer in
12 the schools within the district. Public participation in the
13 recitation of the prayer shall be voluntary.
14 Section 2. This proposed amendment shall be submitted by the
15 Secretary of the Commonwealth to the qualified electors of the
16 State, at the primary, municipal, or general election next held
17 after the advertising requirements of Article XI, section 1 of
18 the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been
1 satisfied.
