AN ACT 1 Amending the act of July 28, 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), entitled, 2 as amended, "An act relating to counties of the second class 3 and second class A; amending, revising, consolidating and 4 changing the laws relating thereto," changing the 5 superannuation retirement age and years of service for prison 6 guards and matrons at jails, workhouses and prisons. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 1710, act of July 28, 10 1953 (P.L.723, No.230), known as the "Second Class County Code," 11 amended December 30, 1974 (P.L.1154, No.367), is amended to 12 read: 13 Section 1710. Employes Eligible for Retirement Allowances.-- 14 * * * 15 (b) Every present or future county employe, other than a 16 member of the police force or the fire department or a fire 17 inspector or any prison guard or matron at any jail, workhouse 18 or prison, who has reached the age of sixty years or upwards and 19 who shall have been a county employe during a period of twenty
1 or more years, and every county employe who is a member of the 2 police force or the fire department or a fire inspector or any 3 prison guard or matron at any jail, workhouse or prison, and who 4 shall have been a county employe during a period of twenty or 5 more years and has reached the age of fifty years or upward, 6 shall, upon application to the board, be retired from service, 7 and shall thereafter receive, during life, except as hereinafter 8 provided, a retirement allowance plus a service increment if 9 any, in accordance with the provisions of section 1712. The time 10 spent in the employ of the county or county institution district 11 need not necessarily have been continuous: Provided, That when 12 any county employe has twenty or more years service, not 13 necessarily continuous, and has reached the age of fifty years 14 or upwards, and shall be separated from the service of the 15 county or county institution district by reason of no cause or 16 act of his or her own, upon application to the board he or she 17 shall thereafter receive, during life, except as hereinafter 18 provided, a retirement allowance plus a service increment if 19 any, in accordance with the provisions of section 1712. The 20 aforesaid retirement allowance plus a service increment if any, 21 shall be subject to a suspension thereof in accordance with the 22 provisions of subsection (h) of this section 1710 and subsection 23 (c) of section 1712. 24 * * * 25 Section 2.
