AN ACT 1 Designating a certain bridge in Warren County as the "James 2 Morrison Memorial Bridge." 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. James Morrison was the first permanent settler in <-- 6 Warren County, having moved there with his family about 1800. 7 Previously, Morrison had served with the Continental Army during 8 the Revolutionary War and was a participant in the battle for 9 Staten Island in 1776 and in the crucial victory at Trenton on 10 Christmas Eve. Discharged from service in 1777, he was very 11 active in the frontier wars against the Indians. In recognition 12 SECTION 1. JAMES MORRISON, WHO MOVED WITH HIS FAMILY TO <-- 13 WARREN COUNTY ABOUT 1800, IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THE FIRST 14 PERMANENT SETTLER OF KINZUA TOWNSHIP. PREVIOUSLY, MORRISON HAD 15 RENDERED ACTIVE SERVICE DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR, HAVING 16 ENGAGED IN COMBAT AT STATEN ISLAND IN 1776 AND IN THE CRUCIAL 17 VICTORY AT TRENTON ON THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS. IN RECOGNITION of 18 the foresight, courage and independence of this early
1 Pennsylvania pioneer, the General Assembly hereby recognizes his
2 achievements by affixing his name to a bridge in his native <--
3 ADOPTED Warren County. <--
4 Section 2. The bridge on T.R. 59 (L.R.209 Station 507+13)
5 approximately 9.6 miles east of Warren Borough and 0.3 mile west
6 of the Warren-McKean county line, is hereby officially
7 designated as the "James Morrison Memorial Bridge."
8 Section 3. The Secretary of Transportation shall erect
9 suitable markers in order to carry out the provisions of this
10 act.
11 Section 4. This act shall take effect immediately.
