In the House of Representatives, October 12, 1977 1 WHEREAS, Ground was broken on June 8, 1977, for a convention 2 center with a total exposition area of 137,100 square feet, in 3 the downtown area of the City of Pittsburgh, between Tenth and 4 Eleventh Streets and Penn Avenue and Fort Duquesne Boulevard; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, The center, which is scheduled for completion in 7 late summer of 1979, is being built by the Commonwealth and will 8 be administered for the citizens of Pittsburgh by the Public 9 Auditorium Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County; and 10 WHEREAS, David Leo Lawrence was born in the City of 11 Pittsburgh and was a distinguished citizen thereof; and 12 WHEREAS, David Leo Lawrence served as Mayor of the City of 13 Pittsburgh for an unprecedented four successful terms, being 14 cited as an Outstanding Mayor of the United States in 1957; and 15 WHEREAS, During the tenure of David Leo Lawrence as Mayor of 16 the City of Pittsburgh, the city was cited as one of the ten
1 best governed cities in the United States; and 2 WHEREAS, David Leo Lawrence served with distinction as the 3 one hundred second Governor of this Commonwealth; therefore be 4 it 5 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the convention center 6 presently under construction by the Commonwealth, in the 7 downtown area of the City of Pittsburgh, between Tenth and 8 Eleventh Streets and between Penn Avenue and Fort Duquesne 9 Boulevard, is hereby designated and shall be known as the David 10 Leo Lawrence Convention Center.
