AN ACT 1 Amending the act of April 28, 1978 (No.42), entitled "An act 2 providing for the development of a Statewide emergency 3 telephone number "911" system plan and establishing the 4 Bureau of Telecommunications with the duties and 5 responsibilities for all telecommunications with State 6 Government," establishing the bureau in the Department of 7 General Services, and providing for the permanency of the 8 bureau. 9 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 10 hereby enacts as follows: 11 Section 1. The definition of "Bureau" of section 3, act of 12 April 28, 1978 (No.42), known as the "Emergency Telephone Act," 13 is amended to read: 14 Section 3. Definitions. 15 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall 16 have, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the 17 meanings given to them in this section: 18 "Bureau" means the [element of telecommunications assigned by 19 the Governor to a statutory administrative department] Office of 20 Telecommunications in the Department of General Services. The 21 director shall report directly to the [cabinet level officer]
1 Secretary of General Services or in the time of emergency, to 2 the Lieutenant Governor for the duration of that emergency. 3 * * * 4 Section 2. The act is amended by adding sections to read: 5 Section 6.1. Transfer of personnel, appropriations and 6 functions. 7 All personnel, allocations, appropriations, equipment, files, 8 records, contracts, agreements, obligations and other material 9 which are used, employed or expended in connection with the 10 powers, duties or functions of telecommunications as defined in 11 Executive Order 1973-8 and all of these functions assigned to 12 the Pennsylvania State Police RELATING TO THE STATEWIDE <-- 13 TELEPHONE NUMBER "911" SYSTEM are hereby transferred to the 14 Bureau of Telecommunications within the Department of General 15 Services as created by this act. 16 Section 6.2. Continuous existence of bureau. 17 The operation and existence of the bureau shall be continuous 18 until otherwise provided by law. 19 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
