           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, MAY 22, 1978

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 1, 1913 (P.L.155, No.104), entitled "An
     2     act regulating the letting of certain contracts for the
     3     erection, construction, and alteration of public buildings,"
     4     increasing the minimum bid requirement AND FURTHER REGULATING  <--
     5     CONTRACTS.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 1, act of May 1, 1913 (P.L.155, No.104),
     9  entitled "An act regulating the letting of certain contracts for
    10  the erection, construction, and alteration of public buildings,"
    11  amended September 1, 1967 (P.L.296, No.124), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1.  Be it enacted, &c., That hereafter in the
    13  preparation of specifications for the erection, construction,
    14  and alteration of any public building, when the entire cost of
    15  such work shall exceed [one thousand five hundred dollars] five   <--
    16  thousand dollars TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS, it shall be   <--
    17  the duty of the architect, engineer, or other person preparing
    18  such specifications, to prepare separate specifications for the
    19  plumbing, heating, ventilating, and electrical work; and it


     1  shall be the duty of the person or persons authorized to enter
     2  into contracts for the erection, construction, or alteration of
     3  such public buildings to receive separate bids upon each of the
     4  said branches of work, and to award the contract for the same to
     5  the lowest responsible bidder for each of said branches.
     6     EVERY CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, RECONSTRUCTION, REPAIR,   <--
     7  IMPROVEMENT OR MAINTENANCE OF PUBLIC WORKS SHALL CONTAIN A
     8  PROVISION THAT ANY STEEL PRODUCTS USED OR SUPPLIED IN THE
     9  PERFORMANCE OF THE CONTRACT OR ANY SUBCONTRACTS THEREUNDER SHALL
    10  BE FROM STEEL MADE IN THE UNITED STATES.
    11     SECTION 2.  THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED IN
    12  A MANNER CONSISTENT WITH THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1978 (NO.3), KNOWN
    13  AS THE "STEEL PRODUCTS PROCUREMENT ACT."
    14     Section 2. 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.          <--
