                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), entitled "An
     2     act to consolidate, editorially revise, and codify the public
     3     welfare laws of the Commonwealth," further providing for
     4     vision care.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 443.4, act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31,
     8  No.21), known as the "Public Welfare Code," amended November 28,
     9  1973 (P.L.364, No.128), is amended to read:
    10     Section 443.4.  Additional Services for Eligible Persons
    11  Other Than the Medically Needy.--Except for the medically needy,
    12  persons eligible for medical assistance:
    13     (1)  May, pursuant to regulations of the department, also
    14  receive dental services, [vision care provided by a physician
    15  skilled in diseases of the eye or by an optometrist prescribed
    16  medications,] prosthetics and appliances, ambulance
    17  transportation, skilled nursing home care for an unlimited
    18  period of time, and other remedial, palliative or therapeutic


     1  services prescribed by or provided under the direction of a
     2  physician or podiatrist.
     3     (2)  Shall, pursuant to regulations of the department,
     4  receive vision care provided by a physician skilled in diseases
     5  of the eye or by an optometrist.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
