        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
           SEPTEMBER 28, 1977

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making appropriations to the Trustees of the Hahnemann Medical
     2     College and Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5     Section 1.  (a)  The sum of $3,172,000, or as much thereof as
     6  may be necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the
     7  Trustees of the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia,
     8  Pennsylvania, for its fiscal period July 1, 1977 to June 30,
     9  1978, for instruction in the Doctor of Medicine program.
    10     (b)  The sum of $215,000, or as much thereof as may be
    11  necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the Trustees
    12  of the Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    13  for its fiscal period July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978 for
    14  instruction in the Allied Health, Professions and Graduate
    15  School of the Hahnemann Medical College.
    16     (C)  AS A CONDITION OF RECEIVING ITS APPROPRIATION, ON OR      <--
    17  AFTER JANUARY 1, 1978, THE MEDICAL SCHOOL SHALL, WHEN ACCEPTING
    18  FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS FOR THE NEXT TERM, SET ASIDE 10% OF THE

     1  TOTAL NUMBER OF ADMISSIONS FOR STUDENTS WHO AGREE THAT UPON THE
     2  COMPLETION OF THEIR MEDICAL TRAINING, THEY SHALL ENGAGE IN THE
     3  PRACTICE OF MEDICINE FOR A PERIOD OF FOUR YEARS IN AN AREA
     4  TERMED MEDICALLY DEPRIVED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF
     5  HEALTH.
     6     Section 2.  Payments to the Hahnemann Medical College of
     7  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on account of the appropriation for
     8  instruction in the Doctor of Medicine Program as provided in
     9  section 1(a) shall be made on the basis of full-time student
    10  enrollment at the rate of $4,400 per student.
    11     SECTION 3.  THE COLLEGE SHALL, UPON ADMITTING A FIRST-YEAR     <--
    12  CLASS, ADMIT AS MANY STUDENTS IN THAT CLASS AS CAN BE
    13  ACCOMMODATED BY THE FACILITIES OF THE SCHOOL.
    14     Section 3. 4.  The college shall provide such information AS   <--
    15  MAY BE REQUIRED TO CARRY OUT THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT and in
    16  such form and manner as the Department of Education may
    17  prescribe. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL ANNUALLY REPORT TO THE GENERAL    <--
    18  ASSEMBLY SUCH DATA AS WILL SHOW THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN EACH
    19  CLASS AND THE FACILITIES AVAILABLE FOR THEM.
    20     Section 4. 5.  The Hahnemann Medical College of Philadelphia,  <--
    21  Pennsylvania, shall report its revenues and expenditures and
    22  present its financial statements in accordance with generally
    23  accepted accounting principles and procedures for educational
    24  institutions as set forth in the "Higher Education Finance
    25  Manual of 1975," without exception.
    26     Section 5. 6.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1977.        <--
