AN ACT
1 Making appropriations to the Thomas Jefferson University of
2 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. (a) The sum of $3,978,000, or as much thereof as
6 may be necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the
7 Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for
8 the fiscal period July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978, for instruction
9 in the Doctor of Medicine program.
10 (b) The sum of $1,000,000, $1,500,000, or as much thereof as <--
11 may be necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the
12 Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for
13 the fiscal period July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978, for the general
14 maintenance of the Thomas Jefferson University including the
15 College of Allied Health Sciences.
16 (c) As a condition of receiving its appropriation, on or
17 after January 1, 1978, the medical school shall, when accepting
1 first-year students for the next term, set aside 10% of the 2 total number of admissions for students who agree that upon the 3 completion of their medical training, they shall engage in the 4 practice of medicine for a period of four years in an area 5 termed medically deprived by the Pennsylvania Department of 6 Health. 7 Section 2. Payments to the Thomas Jefferson University of 8 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on account of the appropriation for 9 instructions in the Doctor of Medicine program as provided in 10 section 1(a) shall be made on the basis of full-time student 11 enrollment at the rate of $4,400 per student. 12 Section 3. Payments to the Thomas Jefferson University of 13 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on account of the appropriation 14 provided in section 1(b) shall be made on the basis of cost 15 during the fiscal period. 16 Section 4. The university shall, upon admitting a first-year 17 class to the Doctor of Medicine program, admit as many students 18 in that class as can be accommodated by the facilities of the 19 university for that program. 20 Section 5. The university shall provide such information as 21 may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this act and in 22 such form and manner as the Department of Education may 23 prescribe. The department shall annually report to the General 24 Assembly such data as will show the number of students in each 25 class in the Doctor of Medicine program and the facilities 26 available for them. 27 Section 6. The Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia, 28 Pennsylvania, shall report its revenues and expenditures and 29 present its financial statements in accordance with generally 30 accepted accounting principles and procedures for educational 19770H1274B2287 - 2 -
