AN ACT
1 Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, adding a provision relating to the
3 right to elect membership.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 5301 of Title 71, act
7 of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the
8 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, is amended to read:
9 § 5301. Mandatory and optional membership.

11 (b) Optional membership.--The State employees listed in
12 subsection (a)(1) through (11) shall have the right to elect
13 membership in the system; once such election is exercised,
14 membership shall continue until the termination of State
15 service. If an employee initially elects not to become a member
16 of the system and subsequently elects to become a member, he
17 shall not be eligible for membership in the system until after
18 one calendar year following his election to become a member.

2 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
