                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), entitled
     2     "An act providing for and reorganizing the conduct of the
     3     executive and administrative work of the Commonwealth by the
     4     Executive Department thereof and the administrative
     5     departments, boards, commissions, and officers thereof,
     6     including the boards of trustees of State Normal Schools, or
     7     Teachers Colleges; abolishing, creating, reorganizing or
     8     authorizing the reorganization of certain administrative
     9     departments, boards, and commissions; defining the powers and
    10     duties of the Governor and other executive and administrative
    11     officers, and of the several administrative departments,
    12     boards, commissions, and officers; fixing the salaries of the
    13     Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and certain other executive
    14     and administrative officers; providing for the appointment of
    15     certain administrative officers, and of all deputies and
    16     other assistants and employes in certain departments, boards,
    17     and commissions; and prescribing the manner in which the
    18     number and compensation of the deputies and all other
    19     assistants and employes of certain departments, boards and
    20     commissions shall be determined," adding a member of the
    21     public at large to State Dental Council and Examining Board
    22     and making editorial changes.

    23     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    24  hereby enacts as follows:
    25     Section 1.  Section 414, act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177,
    26  No.175), known as "The Administrative Code of 1929," is amended
    27  to read:
    28     Section 414.  State Dental Council and Examining Board.--The


     1  State Dental Council and Examining Board shall consist of the
     2  president of the Pennsylvania State Dental Society, [the
     3  Superintendent of Public Instruction,] the Secretary of Health,
     4  [and six persons,] the Commissioner of Professional and
     5  Occupational Affairs and seven persons, at least one of whom
     6  shall represent the public at large, whose [term] terms of
     7  office shall be six years.
     8     The Pennsylvania State Dental Society shall have power to
     9  nominate, from its membership, at least double the number of
    10  candidates required to fill the vacancies occurring annually in
    11  the membership of the State Dental Council and Examining Board.
    12  Such candidates shall have been engaged in the actual practice
    13  of dentistry in this Commonwealth during a period of not less
    14  than ten years. The Governor shall appoint members to fill all
    15  vacancies, occurring from any cause, only from the candidates
    16  nominated as aforesaid. No member of the faculty of a dental
    17  college shall be eligible to appointment as a member of the
    18  State Dental Council and Examining Board. In the event of
    19  failure of the Pennsylvania State Dental Society to nominate
    20  candidates, as aforesaid, the Governor shall appoint members in
    21  good standing of the said society without other restriction.
    22     The members of the State Dental Council and Examining Board
    23  shall annually select one of their number to act as chairman,
    24  and shall elect a secretary who need not be a member of the
    25  board.
    26     Each of the members of the State Dental Council and Examining
    27  Board, other than the [Superintendent of Public Instruction]
    28  Commissioner of Professional and Occupational Affairs, the
    29  Secretary of Health, and the president of the Pennsylvania State
    30  Dental Society, shall receive fifteen dollars per diem, while

     1  actually engaged in the work of the board, and the secretary
     2  shall receive such reasonable compensation as the board shall
     3  determine, with the approval of the [Superintendent of Public
     4  Instruction] Commissioner of Professional and Occupational
     5  Affairs.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
