HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 255 Session of 1976

                           In the House of Representatives, May 18, 1976

     1     WHEREAS, The legislative power of Pennsylvania was vested in
     2  the House of Representatives alone in 1776, and as such
     3  constituted the General Assembly; and
     4     WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania was not established until
     5  the Constitution of 1790 was promulgated; and
     6     WHEREAS, For the past one hundred eighty-six years, the House
     7  and Senate have jointly exercised the duties and burdens of
     8  legislating for the benefit of the citizens of Pennsylvania; and
     9     WHEREAS, Across those years, close bonds of affection and
    10  admiration have developed between the said House and Senate;
    11  therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives do invite the
    13  members of the Senate of Pennsylvania to join its own membership
    14  in ceremonies to be held in Philadelphia, May 19, in this
    15  Bicentennial Year of 1976, commemorating the Declaration of
    16  Independence and especially honoring members of the General
    17  Assembly who participated in the Second Continental Congress
    18  that proclaimed these United States of America free and

     1  independent.
