AN ACT 1 Designating a period in July for a special observance of the 2 American Bicentennial Celebration. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. In honor of the two hundredth anniversary of the 6 founding of the United States of America as a separate and 7 independent Nation and to permit the citizens of this 8 Commonwealth to reflect upon the unique nature of the American 9 democracy and the special position Pennsylvania occupied in 10 fostering and sustaining the growth of this democracy, the 11 weekend of July 2, 3, 4 and 5 of 1976 is hereby set aside as a 12 State holiday and is designated as "American Bicentennial 13 Weekend." 14 The Governor is authorized and requested to issue a 15 proclamation this year calling upon the people of this
1 Commonwealth to remember and commemorate the contributions and 2 sacrifices of their ancestors who boldly set forth on a new form 3 of government and to observe this weekend with appropriate 4 honors and ceremonies. 5 Section 2.
