                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of August 12, 1971 (P.L.299, No.75), entitled
     2     "An act regulating snowmobiles, providing for registrations
     3     and fees, and providing penalties," providing for the
     4     transferability of numbers assigned to snowmobiles.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Subsection (a) of section 3, act of August 12,
     8  1971 (P.L.299, No.75), entitled "An act regulating snowmobiles,
     9  providing for registrations and fees, and providing penalties,"
    10  amended October 3, 1973 (No.77), is amended to read:
    11     Section 3.  Certificates of Registration.--(a) Certificates
    12  of registration and a decal showing the expiration date shall be
    13  issued to the applicant. Numbers corresponding to the permanent
    14  registration number of the snowmobile, shown on the certificate
    15  of registration, shall be obtained by the applicant and affixed
    16  to the snowmobile. The permanent registration number displayed
    17  on the snowmobile shall be of a color which will contrast with
    18  the surface to which applied, shall be reflective, and shall be


     1  at least three inches high. The decals and the permanent
     2  registration number shall be displayed on both sides of the
     3  cowling of the snowmobile for which issued. No number other than
     4  the number assigned to a snowmobile by the department or the
     5  identification number of the registration in another state shall
     6  be attached to or displayed on the cowling. The certificate of
     7  registration issued for a snowmobile shall expire, unless,
     8  within two years of issuance, the owner of the vehicle notifies
     9  the department of the sale or transfer of title and the
    10  necessary information for a newly acquired snowmobile, and the
    11  decal shall [become invalid] remain valid when title to the
    12  snowmobile is so transferred; the fee for such transfer shall be
    13  two dollars ($2,00).
    14     Temporary registration for a period not to exceed forty-five
    15  days may be issued by a registered dealer, pursuant to rules and
    16  regulations promulgated by the department.
    17     The secretary shall maintain a central file of the
    18  certificate of registration number, name and address of the
    19  owner of each snowmobile for which a certificate of registration
    20  is issued and such information shall be made available to all
    21  enforcement agencies.

    23     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately and shall
    24  take effect for all license years beginning January 1, 1976 and
    25  thereafter.
