        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
           APRIL 1, 1976

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of January 10, 1968 (1967 P.L.925, No.417),
     2     entitled "An act relating to officers and employes of the
     3     General Assembly; fixing the number, qualifications,
     4     compensation, mileage and duties of the officers and employes
     5     of the Senate and of the House of Representatives; providing
     6     for their election or appointment, term of office, or of
     7     service, removal and manner of filling vacancies; fixing the
     8     salary of the Director of the Legislative Reference Bureau;
     9     providing for compilation of lists of employes," CHANGING THE  <--
    10     DATES FOR PAYING COMPENSATION AND further providing for a
    11     cost-of-living increase.

    12     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    13  hereby enacts as follows:
    14     Section 1.  The SUBSECTION (E) OF SECTION 41, act of January   <--
    15  10, 1968 (1967 P.L.925, No.417), entitled "An act relating to
    16  officers and employes of the General Assembly; fixing the
    17  number, qualifications, compensation, mileage and duties of the
    18  officers and employes of the Senate and of the House of
    19  Representatives; providing for their election or appointment,
    20  term of office, or of service, removal and manner of filling
    21  vacancies; fixing the salary of the Director of the Legislative
    22  Reference Bureau; providing for compilation of lists of

     1  employes," is amended to read:
     2     SECTION 41.  * * *                                             <--
     3     (E)  ALL COMPENSATION PAYABLE TO OFFICERS AND EMPLOYES UNDER
     4  THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT SHALL BE PAYABLE [SEMI-MONTHLY ON THE  <--
     5  FIFTEENTH DAY AND THE LAST DAY OF EACH MONTH] ON THURSDAY OF      <--
     6  EVERY OTHER WEEK, OR IF THURSDAY IS A HOLIDAY ON THE PRECEDING
     7  DAY, ON REQUISITION OF THE CHIEF CLERK OF THE SENATE OR OF THE
     8  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AS THE CASE MAY BE, PURSUANT TO
     9  CERTIFICATION OF THE OFFICER UNDER WHOSE DIRECTION AND CONTROL
    10  THE OFFICER OR EMPLOYE SHALL BE.
    11     SECTION 2.  THE ACT IS AMENDED BY ADDING A SECTION TO READ:
    12     Section 55.  In addition to any amounts specified heretofore
    13  in this act or any amendments thereto, each person, other than a
    14  member of the General Assembly, who is an employe under this
    15  act, shall receive an amount as a cost-of-living increase equal
    16  to eight per cent of the compensation such person is receiving
    17  on the effective date of this amendatory act. Such amount shall
    18  be prorated to each pay period, commencing with the first pay
    19  period occurring after the effective date of this amendatory act
    20  and continuing thereafter.
    21     Section 2 3.  This act shall take effect immediately.          <--
