                                     AN ACT

     1  Authorizing administrative assistants for members of the House
     2     of Representatives, for the payment of their salaries, and
     3     making an appropriation.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Each member of the House of Representatives shall
     7  be entitled to the services of an administrative assistant who
     8  shall be a person chosen by him.
     9     Section 2.  The administrative assistant shall engage only in
    10  activities related to official legislative and governmental
    11  business and shall not be used in any activity connected with a
    12  political campaign of the Representative or any other person
    13  seeking an elective public office.
    14     Section 3.  The Representative shall, in his sole discretion,
    15  assign the administrative assistant to duties solely within the
    16  legislative district or to his office in the Capitol, or both.
    17     Section 4.  The starting salary of an administrative
    18  assistant shall be $8,000 per year. It shall increase 5% per


     1  year for each year of service.
     2     Section 5.  Each administrative assistant shall be governed
     3  by the conditions and stipulations of the member for whom he is
     4  working insofar as they are not inconsistent with the provisions
     5  of any law or rule of the House of Representatives.
     6     Section 6.  The sum of $1,624,000, or as much thereof as may
     7  be necessary, is hereby specifically appropriated to the Chief
     8  Clerk of the House of Representatives to pay the salary of an
     9  administrative assistant for each member of the House of
    10  Representatives.
    11     Section 7.  This act shall take effect immediately.
