                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," prohibiting certain acts of
     6     discrimination with reference to athletic associations.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Subsection (b) of section 511, act of March 10,
    10  1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the "Public School Code of 1949,"
    11  amended April 14, 1949 (P.L.460, No.85) and April 22, 1949
    12  (P.L.726, No.178), is amended to read:
    13     Section 511.  School Athletics, Publications, and
    14  Organizations.--

    16     (b)  Any school or any class activity or organization


     1  thereof, with the approval of the board, may affiliate with any
     2  local, district, regional, State, or national organization whose
     3  purposes and activities are appropriate to and related to the
     4  school program except that no school may affiliate with a local,
     5  district, regional or State athletic association if the school
     6  discriminates against other schools in the same area by
     7  requiring them to engage in a particular number of sports in
     8  order for them to be members of the athletic association.

    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
