AN ACT
1 Amending the act of April 9, 1849 (P.L.533, No.356), entitled
2 "An act to exempt property to the value of three hundred
3 dollars from levy and sale on execution and distress for
4 rent," increasing the amount of exempt property.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Section 1, act of April 9, 1849 (P.L.533,
8 No.356), entitled "An act to exempt property to the value of
9 three hundred dollars from levy and sale on execution and
10 distress for rent," is amended to read:
11 Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
12 Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General
13 Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the
14 same, that in lieu of the property now exempt by law from levy
15 and sale on execution, issued upon any judgment obtained upon
16 contract and distress for rent, property to the value of [three
17 hundred dollars] one thousand six hundred dollars, exclusive of
1 all wearing apparel of the defendant and his family, and all 2 bibles and school books in use in the family, (which shall 3 remain exempted as heretofore,) and no more, owned by or in 4 possession of any debtor, shall be exempt from levy and sale on 5 execution or by distress for rent. 6 Section 2.
