AN ACT 1 Amending the act of May 1, 1907 (P.L.135, No.109), entitled "An 2 act relating to the appointment of stenographers and 3 assistant stenographers to report proceedings in the several 4 courts of common pleas, and orphans' courts, courts of oyer 5 and terminer and general jail delivery, and courts of quarter 6 sessions of the peace, of this Commonwealth, as well as 7 before commissioners, masters, and special masters in 8 chancery, referees, examiners, auditors, and other officers; 9 prescribing their powers and duties, and when such reports 10 shall be evidence of the facts reported; prescribing their 11 compensation and allowances for expenses, when the same shall 12 be paid by the county wherein such stenographers or assistant 13 stenographers are employed, and when by the parties to such 14 proceedings; and repealing an act, entitled 'An act directing 15 the appointment of official stenographers in the several 16 civil courts of this Commonwealth; authorizing the 17 appointment of stenographers by examiners, masters, referees, 18 commissioners, and auditors; authorizing the appointment of 19 assistant stenographers;' repealing 'An act to authorize the 20 appointment of stenographers in the several courts of this 21 Commonwealth, prescribing their duties and fixing their 22 compensation,' approved May fifteenth, one thousand eight 23 hundred and seventy-four; repealing 'An act to authorize the 24 appointment of stenographers in the several courts of this 25 Commonwealth, prescribing their duties and fixing their 26 compensation,' approved May eighth, one thousand eight 27 hundred and seventy-six, and repealing 'An act defining the 28 duty of court stenographers in the several counties in this 29 State,' approved June tenth, one thousand eight hundred and 30 eighty-one,' approved the twenty-fourth day of May, one 31 thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven; but such repeal not 32 to revive any law repealed by the said act of twenty-fourth 33 of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven,"
1 increasing the compensation of official stenographers for 2 copies of stenographic notes. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Section 8, act of May 1, 1907 (P.L.135, No.109), 6 entitled "An act relating to the appointment of stenographers 7 and assistant stenographers to report proceedings in the several 8 courts of common pleas, and orphans' courts, courts of oyer and 9 terminer and general jail delivery, and courts of quarter 10 sessions of the peace, of this Commonwealth, as well as before 11 commissioners, masters, and special masters in chancery, 12 referees, examiners, auditors, and other officers; prescribing 13 their powers and duties, and when such reports shall be evidence 14 of the facts reported; prescribing their compensation and 15 allowances for expenses, when the same shall be paid by the 16 county wherein such stenographers or assistant stenographers are 17 employed, and when by the parties to such proceedings; and 18 repealing an act, entitled 'An act directing the appointment of 19 official stenographers in the several civil courts of this 20 Commonwealth; authorizing the appointment of stenographers by 21 examiners, masters, referees, commissioners, and auditors; 22 authorizing the appointment of assistant stenographers;' 23 repealing 'An act to authorize the appointment of stenographers 24 in the several courts of this Commonwealth, prescribing their 25 duties and fixing their compensation,' approved May fifteenth, 26 one thousand eight hundred and seventy-four; repealing 'An act 27 to authorize the appointment of stenographers in the several 28 courts of this Commonwealth, prescribing their duties and fixing 29 their compensation,' approved May eighth, one thousand eight 30 hundred and seventy-six, and repealing 'An act defining the duty 19750H0906B1029 - 2 -
1 of court stenographers in the several counties in this State,' 2 approved June tenth, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one,' 3 approved the twenty-fourth day of May, one thousand eight 4 hundred and eighty-seven; but such repeal not to revive any law 5 repealed by the said act of twenty-fourth of May, one thousand 6 eight hundred and eighty-seven," amended September 2, 1961 7 (P.L.1180, No.526), is amended to read: 8 Section 8. Every official stenographer shall be paid, in 9 addition to the compensation provided in section six of this 10 act, [thirty cents] fifty cents for each one hundred words of 11 every copy of the stenographic notes of trials and of other 12 matters in connection with the business of the court, that are 13 furnished to the court or filed of record, and [ten cents] 14 twenty cents for each one hundred words of every copy that is 15 given to counsel or to parties, if ordered so that they may be 16 typewritten at the same time with the filing copy; payment for 17 such copies to be made by the county in which the case is 18 pending, or for which the work is performed upon the order of 19 the presiding judge.
