        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT, HOUSE OF
           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, APRIL 14, 1975

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled
     2     "An act concerning townships of the first class; amending,
     3     revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating
     4     thereto," providing for the filling of certain vacancies with
     5     registered electors.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Section 531, act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206,
     9  No.331), known as "The First Class Township Code," reenacted and
    10  amended May 27, 1949 (P.L.1955, No.569), is amended to read:
    11     Section 531.  Auditors.--When a vacancy occurs in the
    12  ELECTIVE office of township auditor, by reason of death,          <--
    13  resignation, removal from the township, or otherwise, the court
    14  of [quarter sessions] common pleas shall, upon the petition of
    15  ten or more registered electors, appoint a suitable person who
    16  is a registered elector to fill such vacancy for the unexpired
    17  term of the person whose place he is appointed to fill.
    18     Section 2.  Section 532 of the act, amended June 3, 1953


     1  (P.L.275, No.49), is amended to read:
     2     Section 532.  Township Treasurer and Controller.--The board
     3  of township commissioners may fill any vacancy occurring in the
     4  office of township treasurer or township controller by death,
     5  resignation, removal from the township, or otherwise. The person
     6  so appointed shall be a registered elector and shall hold office
     7  for the unexpired term of the person whose place he is appointed
     8  to fill.
     9     Section 3.  Section 533 of the act is amended to read:
    10     Section 533.  Assessors.--Vacancies in the office of assessor
    11  and assistant township assessors shall be filled in the manner
    12  provided by law with persons who are registered electors.
