                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), entitled "An
     2     act consolidating and revising the Vehicle Code, the Tractor
     3     Code, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Act and
     4     other acts relating to the ownership, possession and use of
     5     vehicles and tractors," making a further exception to
     6     unlawful operation of a motor vehicle by a dealer in
     7     connection with official inspection.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Subsection (h) of section 834, act of April 29,
    11  1959 (P.L.58, No.32), known as "The Vehicle Code," amended June
    12  23, 1965 (P.L.142, No.97), is amended to read:
    13     Section 834.  Official Inspections.--

    15     (h)  It shall be unlawful to operate any motor vehicle,
    16  motorcycle, trailer or semi-trailer on a highway (1) during an
    17  inspection period, unless the motor vehicle, motorcycle, trailer
    18  or semi-trailer has been inspected during the present or last
    19  preceding inspection period, and (2) after the close of any
    20  inspection period, unless it has been inspected during the last


     1  preceding inspection period, and (3) a certificate for the
     2  proper period furnished and displayed: Provided, That this
     3  subsection shall not apply to any vehicle while it is being
     4  towed to an official inspection station if the towing vehicle
     5  displays a certificate of inspection for the proper period, nor
     6  to any motor vehicle being operated by a dealer or an agent of a
     7  dealer while being operated in transit to an official inspection
     8  station for the purpose of inspection in the same municipality
     9  or township in which the dealer's place of business is located
    10  or from the point of purchase of such motor vehicle, whether
    11  within or without the Commonwealth, to such dealer's place of
    12  business during the forty-eight (48) hour period immediately
    13  following the purchase of such vehicle, or if purchased without
    14  the Commonwealth, during the forty-eight (48) hour period
    15  immediately following entry into the Commonwealth, nor to any
    16  motor vehicle while being operated by an owner or employe of an
    17  official inspection station in transit to such official
    18  inspection station for the purpose of inspection.
