                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242), entitled "An act
     2     relating to roads, streets, highways and bridges; amending,
     3     revising, consolidating and changing the laws administered by
     4     the Secretary of Highways and by the Department of Highways
     5     relating thereto," authorizing the Secretary of
     6     Transportation to perform certain highway construction and
     7     enter into necessary contracts and agreements in order to
     8     obtain certain benefits under the Federal-Aid Highway Act of
     9     1968.

    10     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    11  hereby enacts as follows:
    12     Section 1.  The act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242), known as the
    13  "State Highway Law," is amended by adding a section to read:
    14     Section 1006.  Expenditure of Federal Funds for an Urban
    15  Traffic Operations Program to Increase Capacity and Safety.--The
    16  Secretary of Transportation may perform such highway
    17  construction for improvements of streets in cities, boroughs,
    18  incorporated towns and townships which directly facilitate and
    19  control traffic flow, such as grade separation of intersections,
    20  widening of lanes, channelization of traffic, traffic control
    21  systems, and loading and unloading ramps in accordance with the

     1  provisions of section 10 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1968
     2  (Chapter 1, Title 23 U.S.C.).
     3     The Secretary shall enter into all necessary contracts and
     4  agreements with the proper agencies of any government, Federal,
     5  State and/or political subdivisions and shall do all other
     6  things necessary and proper in order to obtain the benefits
     7  afforded under section 10 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of
     8  1968.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
