SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, allowing scrap metal processors to destroy
     3     certificates of junk when the vehicle is no longer
     4     identifiable.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 1117(e) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     8  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     9  § 1117.  Vehicle destroyed or junked.

    11     (e)  Transfer to scrap metal processor.--When a scrap metal
    12  processor obtains a destroyed or junked vehicle from a licensed
    13  salvor, it shall be the duty of the salvor to obtain a
    14  certificate of junk therefor. When a scrap metal processor
    15  purchases a destroyed or junked vehicle from a person other than
    16  a salvor, it shall be the duty of the scrap metal processor to
    17  obtain the certificate of junk. A scrap metal processor may
    18  destroy the certificate of junk when the vehicle has been


     1  processed to the extent that it is no longer identifiable.

     3     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
