| |
| INTRODUCED BY GREENLEAF, STACK, BREWSTER, RAFFERTY, WASHINGTON, ALLOWAY, BOSCOLA, SOLOBAY, FONTANA, FERLO, MENSCH AND PIPPY, JANUARY 9, 2012 |
| |
| |
| REFERRED TO TRANSPORTATION, JANUARY 9, 2012 |
| |
| |
| |
| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating a bridge on that portion of U.S. Route 202 Parkway |
2 | over Pennsylvania Route 309, Montgomery Township, Montgomery |
3 | County as the Dr. Robert R. Kuhn Bridge. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Dr. Robert R. Kuhn Bridge. |
7 | (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as |
8 | follows: |
9 | (1) Dr. Robert R. Kuhn was recognized by The Partnership |
10 | Transportation Management Association for his tireless |
11 | support of transportation issues in Montgomery Township, |
12 | Montgomery County, including the Route 202 project for |
13 | relieving traffic congestion. |
14 | (2) Dr. Kuhn was instrumental in ensuring that township |
15 | land remained undeveloped and preserved for the construction |
16 | of the new 8.6 mile Route 202 Parkway between Route 63 (Welsh |
17 | Road) and Route 611 in Montgomery and Bucks counties. |
18 | (3) Dr. Kuhn has been involved in local government in |
|
1 | Montgomery County for over three decades. He served as a |
2 | Montgomery Township supervisor for 30 years. He was elected |
3 | to the board of supervisors in 1978 and served until 2007. |
4 | Prior to that time, he served on the township's planning |
5 | commission from June 1972 to December 1977. |
6 | (4) As a Montgomery Township supervisor, Dr. Kuhn |
7 | reviewed subdivision approvals of developing properties |
8 | between County Line and Horsham Roads. He was successful in |
9 | requiring and securing a deed of conveyance from properties |
10 | within the then-prospective pathway of this bypass to the |
11 | Commonwealth, which resulted in acquisition of practically |
12 | all of the needed land in the area without condemnation, |
13 | negotiation and payment by the Commonwealth. |
14 | (5) As a Montgomery Township supervisor, Dr. Kuhn |
15 | prevented developers and owners of commercial and shopping |
16 | center development from building within the prospective |
17 | pathway of the bypass between Routes 309 and 63, thus |
18 | preventing erection of buildings within that area and |
19 | securing good planning of these developments as related to |
20 | the proposed Route 202 bypass. |
21 | (6) Dr. Kuhn was tireless in his efforts to build |
22 | consensus for approval of the bypass in adjacent |
23 | municipalities and Montgomery and Bucks counties and among |
24 | authorities of the Department of Transportation of the |
25 | Commonwealth. |
26 | (b) Designation.--The bridge on U.S. Route 202 Parkway over |
27 | Pennsylvania Route 309 in Montgomery Township, Montgomery |
28 | County, is hereby designated as the Dr. Robert R. Kuhn Bridge. |
29 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
30 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to |
|
1 | traffic in both directions. |
2 | Section 2. Effective date. |
3 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
