| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating the bridge that carries State Route 2018 over the |
2 | Monongahela River from the Borough of North Charleroi, |
3 | Washington County, to the City of Monessen, Westmoreland |
4 | County, as the Governor John K. Tener Memorial Bridge. |
5 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
6 | hereby enacts as follows: |
7 | Section 1. Governor John K. Tener Memorial Bridge. |
8 | (a) Declaration of policy.--The General Assembly finds and |
9 | declares as follows: |
10 | (1) John K. Tener moved to Charleroi on April 20, 1891 |
11 | and became the President of the First National Bank of |
12 | Charleroi by 1898. He organized the Charleroi Savings & Trust |
13 | company being its Secretary/Treasurer as well as being |
14 | President of the Mercantile Bridge Company and was the |
15 | Director of the Webster-Monessen, Belle Vernon, Fayette City |
16 | Street Railway Co. (Trolleys) and of the Westside Street |
17 | Railway Company. |
18 | (2) John K. Tener served as Governor of Pennsylvania |
19 | from 1911 to 1915 and was considered a highway czar signing |

1 | into law the "Sproul Road Bill." This law facilitated the |
2 | improvement of State roads across this Commonwealth. He was |
3 | also instrumental in having the Charleroi-Monessen Bridge |
4 | built. |
5 | (b) Designation.--The bridge that carries State Route 2018 |
6 | over the Monongahela River from the Borough of North Charleroi, |
7 | Washington County, to the City of Monessen, Westmoreland County, |
8 | shall be designated as the Governor John K. Tener Memorial |
9 | Bridge. |
10 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall place and |
11 | maintain appropriate signs at both ends of the bridge designated |
12 | in subsection (b). |
13 | Section 2. Effective date. |
14 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
