AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), entitled
2"An act providing for and reorganizing the conduct of the
3executive and administrative work of the Commonwealth by the
4Executive Department thereof and the administrative
5departments, boards, commissions, and officers thereof,
6including the boards of trustees of State Normal Schools, or
7Teachers Colleges; abolishing, creating, reorganizing or
8authorizing the reorganization of certain administrative
9departments, boards, and commissions; defining the powers and
10duties of the Governor and other executive and administrative
11officers, and of the several administrative departments,
12boards, commissions, and officers; fixing the salaries of the
13Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and certain other executive
14and administrative officers; providing for the appointment of
15certain administrative officers, and of all deputies and
16other assistants and employes in certain departments, boards,
17and commissions; and prescribing the manner in which the
18number and compensation of the deputies and all other
19assistants and employes of certain departments, boards and
20commissions shall be determined," providing for eligibility
21for subsidized child care for veterans and military
22personnel.

23The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
24hereby enacts as follows:

25Section 1. The act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), known
26as The Administrative Code of 1929, is amended by adding a
27section to read:

1Section 2336. Eligibility for Subsidized Child Care for 
2Veterans and Military Personnel.--(a) The following shall be 
3given a preference for placement in subsidized child care 
4available under 55 Pa. Code Pt. V Subpt. B (relating to 
5eligibility for services):

6(1) A family that has at least one parent who is a veteran
7of the armed forces, if the family otherwise qualifies for
8subsidized child-care services under regulations of the
9Department of Public Welfare.

10(2) A family that has at least one parent who is a
11Pennsylvania National Guard member that has been ordered to
12active Federal or State service shall, if the family otherwise
13qualifies for subsidized child-care services under regulations
14of the department. A family shall continue to receive subsidized
15child-care services after the Pennsylvania National Guard member
16has returned from active Federal or State service for as long as
17the family continues to meet eligibility requirements under
18regulations of the department.

19(b) For purposes of this section, the term "veteran" shall
20mean a person who served on active duty in the United States
21Armed Forces, including any of the following:

22(1) A reservist or member of the National Guard who was
23discharged or released from the service under honorable
24conditions.

25(2) A reservist or member of the National Guard who
26completed an initial term of enlistment or qualifying period of
27service.

28(3) A reservist or member of the National Guard who was 
29disabled in the line of duty during training.

30Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
