SENATE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for funeral processions and
     3     following too closely.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 3107(b) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended and the section is amended by
     8  adding a subsection to read:
     9  § 3107.  Drivers in funeral processions.

    11     (b)  Visual signals [required] and distance.--The privileges
    12  granted by this section shall apply only if each vehicle in the
    13  funeral procession:
    14         (1)  displays lighted head lamps and emergency flashers
    15     [and];
    16         (2)  bears a flag or other insignia designating it as
    17     part of a funeral procession[.]; and
    18         (3)  follows closely enough to the vehicle in front of it

     1     as to create the appearance that no other vehicle may enter
     2     and occupy the space between the vehicles in the procession.

     4     (d)  Directions.--Each driver of a vehicle which is to be
     5  driven in a funeral procession shall be given directions by the
     6  funeral director so that the vehicles in a funeral procession
     7  which is interrupted may proceed to the cemetery.
     8     Section 2.  Section 3310(c) of Title 75 is amended to read:
     9  § 3310.  Following too closely.

    11     (c)  Caravans and motorcades.--Upon any roadway outside of an
    12  urban district, motor vehicles being driven in a caravan or
    13  motorcade, whether or not towing other vehicles, shall be so
    14  operated as to allow sufficient space between each vehicle or
    15  combination of vehicles so as to enable any other vehicle to
    16  enter and occupy space without danger. This subsection does not
    17  apply to funeral processions which comply with section 3107(b)
    18  (relating to drivers in funeral processions), which shall not be
    19  interrupted by any vehicle other than an emergency vehicle.
    20     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
