AN ACT 1 Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled 2 "An act concerning townships of the first class; amending, 3 revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating 4 thereto," providing for additional insurance. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Clause XXIII of section 1502, act of June 24, 8 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), known as "The First Class Township 9 Code," reenacted and amended May 27, 1949 (P.L.1955, No.569), is 10 amended to read: 11 Section 1502. The corporate power of a township of the first 12 class shall be vested in the board of township commissioners. 13 The board shall have power-- 14 * * * 15 XXIII. Insurance. To make contracts with any fire insurance 16 company, association or exchange, including mutual companies 17 duly authorized by law to transact insurance business in the 18 Commonwealth, insuring any building or property of the township; 19 to make contracts with any insurance company insuring any public
1 liability of the township including insurance on every township 2 officer, official, and employe for liability arising from errors 3 and omissions in the performance of their duties in the course 4 of their employment, except that liability of elected or 5 appointed officials or officers for surcharge in accordance with 6 law shall not be affected hereby; to appropriate such amount as 7 may be necessary to secure insurance or compensation for 8 volunteer firemen of companies duly recognized by the township 9 by motion or resolution, killed or injured while going to or 10 returning or attending fires; to make contracts of insurance 11 with any insurance company, association or exchange authorized 12 to transact business in this Commonwealth insuring township 13 employes or any class or classes thereof under a policy or 14 policies of insurance covering workmen's compensation, life, 15 health or accident insurance, and to contract with any such 16 company granting annuities or pensions for the pensioning of 17 such employes, and to agree to pay part or all of the premiums 18 or charges for carrying such contracts, and to appropriate 19 moneys from the township treasury for such purposes. 20 * * * 21 Section 2.
