AN ACT 1 Amending the act of August 21, 1953 (P.L.1323, No.373), entitled 2 "An act concerning notaries public; and amending, revising, 3 consolidating and changing the law relating thereto," further 4 providing for the manner of payment of application fees. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Section 5, act of August 21, 1953 (P.L.1323, 8 No.373), known as "The Notary Public Law," is amended to read: 9 Section 5. Application to Become a Notary Public.-- 10 Applications for appointment to the office of notary public 11 shall be made to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, on forms 12 prescribed and furnished by him, and shall be accompanied by a 13 fee of twenty-five dollars ($25), payable to the order of "State 14 Treasurer," by money order, [certified] check, or draft. Each 15 application shall bear the endorsement of the Senator of the 16 district in which the applicant resides, or, in the case of a 17 vacancy in that senatorial district, shall be endorsed by the 18 Senator of an adjacent district. 19 Before issuing to any applicant a commission as notary
1 public, the Secretary of the Commonwealth shall satisfy himself 2 that the applicant is of good moral character, and is familiar 3 with the duties and responsibilities of a notary public. Such 4 qualifying requirements may be waived in the case of 5 reappointment or appointments of persons making application 6 within six (6) months after the expiration of a previous term as 7 notary public, or appointments of persons who were prevented 8 from applying for reappointment or from applying for 9 appointment, within the six (6) month extension period mentioned 10 above, by reason of their induction or enlistment in the armed 11 forces of the United States, if application is made within one 12 (1) year after military discharge of the applicant, under 13 conditions other than dishonorable. 14 Section 2.
