A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of June 20 through 26, 2016, as "Heat
Stroke Prevention Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Heat stroke is the leading cause of non-crash
vehicle-related fatalities for children who are 14 years of age
or younger; and
WHEREAS, Unfortunately, even a great parent can forget that a
child is in the back seat of a vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Risk factors that may lead to heat stroke in
children who are left in a vehicle include a caregiver who is
not accustomed to driving with a child in the vehicle and a
caregiver whose routine suddenly changes; and
WHEREAS, Heat stroke deaths can happen at any time of the
year and have been reported in 11 months out of the year in
nearly all 50 states, including Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, We can all help to reduce the number of injuries and
deaths caused by heat stroke by raising public awareness of the
importance of preventing these senseless tragedies from

occurring; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of June 20
through 26, 2016, as "Heat Stroke Prevention Week" in
Pennsylvania.
