A RESOLUTION
Designating April 23, 2016, as "Phi Mu Fraternity Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Phi Mu was founded in 1852 at Wesleyan College in
Macon, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Phi Mu began as a Philomathean Society, a literary
society; and
WHEREAS, Phi Mu is the second oldest fraternity for women in
the nation; and
WHEREAS, The mission of Phi Mu is to provide personal and
academic development, service to others, commitment to
excellence and lifelong friendship through a shared tradition;
and
WHEREAS, Phi Mu's purpose is founded on the principles of
love, honor and truth; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, Phi Mu became the first fraternity for
women to establish "National Philanthropy Day"; and
WHEREAS, There have been over 175,000 Phi Mu members and 228
chapters; and

WHEREAS, On April 23, 2016, the South Central Pennsylvania
Alumnae, the Beta Tau Collegiate (Drexel University) and the Phi
Eta Collegiate (York College of Pennsylvania) chapters of Phi Mu
will be cohosting "Phi Mu Day 2016" in Hershey, Pennsylvania;
and
WHEREAS, The event will be a daylong celebration of the Phi
Mu Fraternity and sisterhood by all members located in this
Commonwealth and the surrounding states; and
WHEREAS, Activities will include a meet and greet with the
area chapters, shopping at the fraternity store - the Carnation
Collection, a special ceremony, lunch and featured guest
speaker, National Ritual Chairwoman, Peggy King; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 23, 2016, as "Phi
Mu Fraternity Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate the Phi Mu Fraternity
for its years of service to its community.
