SENATE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 10, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of May 9 through 15, 2004, as "National
     2     Police Week" and May 10, 2004, as "National Police Officers'
     3     Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Approximately 600 police officers have made the
     5  ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within
     6  this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty; and
     7     WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 9 through
     8  15, 2004, will be recognized as "National Police Week"; and
     9     WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was
    10  held on May 15, 1962, following a proclamation signed by
    11  President John F. Kennedy, and has continued to be observed
    12  annually in memory of those police officers who made the
    13  ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of
    15  police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in this
    16  Commonwealth; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 9 through
    18  15, 2004, as "National Police Week" and May 10, 2004, as

     1  "National Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
