| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing March 2012 as "Eye Donor Month" in Pennsylvania. |
2 | WHEREAS, Eye donation allows for restoration of sight to |
3 | recipients whose vision has been affected by injury, disease or |
4 | infection; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Corneal transplant is one of the most frequently |
6 | performed human transplant procedures; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Since 1961, more than 700,000 corneal transplants |
8 | have been performed in the United States, restoring sight to |
9 | men, women and children ranging from nine days to 103 years of |
10 | age; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Corneal transplant operations have a national |
12 | success rate of 90%; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Eye donation follows the same process as organ |
14 | donation, and there are no restrictions on who may donate; and |
15 | WHEREAS, There is no substitute for human cornea tissue, and |
16 | the transplant process depends upon the selfless act of eye |
17 | donation; therefore be it |
