A RESOLUTION 1 Designating April 7 through 11, 2008, as "Community Banking 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, For more than 170 years, Pennsylvania's community 4 financial institutions have provided the local support our 5 communities need to prosper and grow; and 6 WHEREAS, Today, more than 225 community banks in this 7 Commonwealth continue the tradition of giving back to their 8 local communities through nearly 2,500 banking offices, with 9 more than $130 billion in assets, community banks know that when 10 money stays in town it becomes a renewable resource, creating an 11 economic cycle that constantly revitalizes and stimulates local 12 communities; and 13 WHEREAS, Community banks are working citizens in their 14 communities in every sense of the word with more than 40,000 15 full-time and part-time employees; and 16 WHEREAS, These banks have made significant contributions to
1 the economic well-being of Pennsylvania through their financial 2 support, their dedication as good neighbors and, above all, 3 their service as financially sound and reliable sources of 4 economic lifeblood in our communities; and 5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's community banks focus on the 6 prosperity of individuals and small businesses in their 7 hometowns: community banks have reinvested, on average, 95% of 8 their loan portfolio in their own communities through 9 residential mortgages and commercial, agricultural and student 10 loans; and 11 WHEREAS, Community banks play a significant role in local 12 economic development efforts, stimulating the economy to produce 13 jobs and new opportunities and, as a group, they contribute an 14 important and strong part of the Commonwealth's economic fabric; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Community banks also enjoy the trust of their 17 customers. Indeed, neighbors are helping neighbors build their 18 homes, save for higher education, plan for retirement and 19 fulfill other dreams. Community banks have long helped in the 20 development of our communities and the Commonwealth as a whole, 21 and we look forward to many more contributions; and 22 WHEREAS, With a theme of "Where tradition & Innovation Meet," 23 Pennsylvania's community banks are observing April 7 through 11, 24 2008, as "Community Banking Week" in Pennsylvania, and it is 25 fitting that Pennsylvanians recognize this observance; therefore 26 be it 27 RESOLVED, That the Senate hereby designate April 7 through 28 11, 2008, as "Community Banking Week" in Pennsylvania with 29 heartfelt appreciation for the contributions of these helpful 30 institutions.
