                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Designating April 7 through 11, 2008, as "Community Banking
     2 Week" in Pennsylvania.

3 WHEREAS, For more than 170 years, Pennsylvania's community
4 financial institutions have provided the local support our
5 communities need to prosper and grow; and
6 WHEREAS, Today, more than 225 community banks in this
7 Commonwealth continue the tradition of giving back to their
8 local communities through nearly 2,500 banking offices, with
9 more than $130 billion in assets, community banks know that when
10 money stays in town it becomes a renewable resource, creating an
11 economic cycle that constantly revitalizes and stimulates local
    12 communities; and
13 WHEREAS, Community banks are working citizens in their
14 communities in every sense of the word with more than 40,000
    15 full-time and part-time employees; and
16 WHEREAS, These banks have made significant contributions to

1 the economic well-being of Pennsylvania through their financial
2 support, their dedication as good neighbors and, above all,
3 their service as financially sound and reliable sources of
4 economic lifeblood in our communities; and
5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's community banks focus on the
6 prosperity of individuals and small businesses in their
7 hometowns: community banks have reinvested, on average, 95% of
8 their loan portfolio in their own communities through
9 residential mortgages and commercial, agricultural and student
    10 loans; and
11 WHEREAS, Community banks play a significant role in local
12 economic development efforts, stimulating the economy to produce
13 jobs and new opportunities and, as a group, they contribute an
    14  important and strong part of the Commonwealth's economic fabric;
    15 and
16 WHEREAS, Community banks also enjoy the trust of their
17 customers. Indeed, neighbors are helping neighbors build their
18 homes, save for higher education, plan for retirement and
19 fulfill other dreams. Community banks have long helped in the
20 development of our communities and the Commonwealth as a whole,
21 and we look forward to many more contributions; and
22 WHEREAS, With a theme of "Where tradition & Innovation Meet,"
23 Pennsylvania's community banks are observing April 7 through 11,
24 2008, as "Community Banking Week" in Pennsylvania, and it is
25 fitting that Pennsylvanians recognize this observance; therefore
    26 be it
