A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating October 26, 2013, as "Make a Difference Day" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Serious social problems concern our nation and
4threaten its future; and

5WHEREAS, Connecting with others and working together through
6volunteer service bridges differences separating people and help
7solve serious social problems; and

8WHEREAS, Philanthropy and volunteerism are an American
9tradition; and

10WHEREAS, Millions of self-sacrificing individuals touch and
11enhance the lives of others on Make a Difference Day by giving
12where there is a need, rebuilding what has been torn down,
13teaching where there is a desire to learn and inspiring those
14who have lost hope; and

15WHEREAS, Since the inaugural Make a Difference Day in 1992,
16USA Weekend Magazine and its affiliate newspapers and the Points
17of Light Foundation and its affiliate volunteer centers have

1joined to promote an annual national day of doing good that
2celebrates and strengthens the spirit of volunteer service; and

3WHEREAS, Volunteer service is an investment in the future
4that we all must share; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the Senate designate October 26, 2013, as
6"Make a Difference Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

7RESOLVED, That the Senate urge all Pennsylvanians to observe
8this day by connecting with friends, fellow employees and
9relatives and with religious, school and civic groups to engage
10in projects benefiting their communities.
