AN ACT
1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, requiring that certain burns be
3 reported.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 5106(a) of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 5106. Failure to report injuries by firearm or criminal act.
9 (a) Offense defined.--A physician, intern or resident, or
10 any person conducting, managing or in charge of any hospital or
11 pharmacy, or in charge of any ward or part of a hospital, to
12 whom shall come or be brought any person:
13 (1) suffering from any wound or other injury inflicted
14 by his own act or by the act of another by means of a deadly
15 weapon as defined in section 2301 [of this title] (relating
16 to definitions); [or]
17 (2) suffering from a burn injury affecting 5% or more of
18 the surface area of the injured person's body; or
1 [(2)] (3) upon whom injuries have been inflicted in
2 violation of any penal law of this Commonwealth;
3 commits a summary offense if he fails to report such injuries
4 immediately, both by telephone and in writing, to the chief of
5 police or other head of the police department of the local
6 government, or to the Pennsylvania State Police. The report
7 shall state the name of the injured person, if known, his
8 whereabouts and the character and extent of his injuries.
