A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the month of May 2013 as "Egg Month" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The American Egg Board dedicates May to raising egg
4awareness; and

5WHEREAS, The mission of the American Egg Board is to increase
6the demand for eggs and egg products on behalf of the United
7States egg producers; and

8WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the third largest egg-producing
9state in the nation, with an average of 23.9 million hens
10producing nearly seven billion eggs and contributing $408.2
11million to this Commonwealth's economy each year; and

12WHEREAS, Eggs are one of the most affordable sources of high-
13quality protein and other important nutrients that contribute to
14a healthy lifestyle; and

15WHEREAS, Pennsylvania eggs meet high quality and safety
16standards, especially those certified under the Pennsylvania Egg

1Quality Assurance Program (PEQAP), and this program helps to
2ensure that basic food safety preventive measures are used; and

3WHEREAS, Many PEQAP egg producers are enrolled in PA
4Preferred, the official branding program of agricultural
5commodities produced in this Commonwealth that helps consumers
6know they are purchasing goods made in this Commonwealth; and

7WHEREAS, All PA Preferred eggs must be certified through
8PEQAP; therefore be it

9RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 2013 as "Egg Month"
10in Pennsylvania and recognize Pennsylvania's strong poultry
11industry, which provides this Commonwealth with a bountiful
12supply of eggs and contributes to our economy and quality of
13life.
